Sign language music – the world’s most inclusive music genre!
Music is something we all feel, whether we hear the sounds or experience the rhythm in other ways. Traditionally, music has been associated with sound, but what if music could also be 100% visual? What if a song was not just heard, but seen, felt and experienced in a whole new way? This is the essence of sign language music – the world’s most inclusive music genre!

What is sign language music?

Sign language music is an art form where the lyrics, emotions and energy of the music are expressed through sign language, body language, facial expressions and rhythm. This is much more than a translation of song lyrics – it is a full-fledged musical interpretation where visual elements replace or enhance the auditory.

Instead of just hearing the words, the audience sees them brought to life with their whole body. Every movement, every expression and every rhythmic pulse is part of the musical experience. This allows both hearing and sign language users to experience music in a new, heartfelt and inclusive way.

Sign language artist vs. sign language interpreter – an important difference

It is important to understand the difference between a sign language artist and a sign language interpreter. A sign language artist is not an interpreter, but a music artist on a par with all other artists – only that the expression is visual in addition to vocal.

Many people associate sign language music with the sign language interpreters who have interpreted songs at Eurovision, Melodifestivalen and MGP since 2015, but these performances often take place on separate channels or hidden from the main stage. Sign language has never been part of the main show itself – until now! Señor Glitterrosa wants to lift sign language music into the spotlight, where music belongs: on stage, in the light, at the center of the show!

Sign language music is not limited to one genre. Everything from rock and pop to opera and ballads can be conveyed through sign language, and the music is adapted to the dynamics of the song. In opera, large movements are used when the vocals are powerful, while soft movements dominate in lower parts. Sign language thus becomes a natural extension of music – not an interpretation on the side.

The music genre that unites the world

Sign language music has roots in different cultures and has grown into a global movement in recent years. From the USA to Europe, Asia and Latin America, artists have broken barriers and shown that music is more than just sound. Major events such as the Eurovision Song Contest, the Super Bowl and national Melodi Grand Prix competitions have begun to include sign language interpreted music – but always in the background. Señor Glitterrosa will bring sign language to the forefront, where the music actually happens!

This genre builds bridges between people regardless of language, culture and functional ability. When music is performed visually, it becomes accessible to everyone – both those who were born deaf, those who have lost their hearing, and those who can hear but want a more visual and emotional experience of music.

Why sign language music is the future

✅ Unique and visual music experience – Music should not only be heard, it should be seen, felt and experienced!
✅ Inclusive of EVERYONE – This is not just a genre for the deaf or hard of hearing, but for everyone who loves music.
✅ Magical stage show – Sign language music adds a visual dimension that takes live performances to a whole new level!
✅ A growing global trend – More major artists and festivals are investing in sign language music. This is not a niche – it’s the future!
